Preliminary ISAT Test Results are In
Preliminary ISAT results for the Spring of 2010 are in and are impressive! Erie Middle School students, teachers and staff have a lot to be proud of this year. Results show the scores as follows: 5th grade 94% in math, 84% in reading and 27% in writing; 6th grade 98% in math, 94% in reading, and 88% in writing; 7th grade 95% in math, 98% in reading and 95% in Science; and 8th grade 97% in math, 100% in reading, and 100% in writing. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes combined scores were at or above the 95% level so each of those classes will enjoy a fun filled day at Michael’s Fun World. Excited students were rewarded for their hard work at an all-school ISAT prize drawing on August 24. Each student who met the standards received one ticket in the lottery and those that exceeded the standards received 2 tickets. Extra tickets were also given during the testing week last spring to those students who worked hard and participated in the “dress for success” days. In true lottery form, students names were drawn from a box randomly and presented with a prize. The winners and their prizes are listed below. Congratulations to all and let’s do it again this year!

Dear Parents,
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Tricia Bianchetta and I am the new principal at Erie Elementary. I grew up in Erie and I have fond memories of the community and my teachers from K-12. I have been an educator for 27 years. Prior to coming to Erie, I taught 4th, 6th, and 8th grades and Title I. For the past five years I have been the principal at Donovan Elementary in east-central Illinois. Donovan is a small, rural community similar to Erie. I believe Erie Elementary is a good school and a good match for me. I am excited about the possibility of working with you and your family.
I’ve been impressed with the students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators I have met at Erie. Everyone has been very friendly, helpful and positive. I am confident that we can all work together to help your child succeed. It is critical that we create a solid working partnership and keep an open line of communication.
Here are five tips to help build that partnership:
■ There is no time like the present to introduce yourself to your child’s teacher. Don’t wait until there is a problem. Set a positive tone for the entire school year.
■ Put parent-teacher conferences on your calendar-and don’t miss them (evenings of October 18 and 20)!
■ Stay in regular contact with your child’s teacher. Touch base, see how your child is progressing, ask a question, or voice a concern.
■ If problems arise, stay objective. Stay calm and give the teacher the benefit of the doubt. Get in touch with the teacher as soon as possible;ignoring problems only makes them worse. Get the teacher’s perspective on the issue at hand, and work together to develop a solution.
■ Don’t be a stranger. Visit the classroom. This can be difficult for working parents, but even dropping by for lunch shows interest in your child’s learning.
■ Make sure your child attends school regularly and doesn’t miss too many days. Regular attendance is a great predictor of student success.
School will be starting soon and we are busy “gearing up” for a great year. I look forward to developing a strong partnership with you.
Yours in Education,
Tricia Bianchetta
