Good Touch/Bad Touch

During the month of October, preschool (4 year old students only) and all elementary students in grades K-4 will participate in a program designed to educate children about sexual abuse prevention. The presentations and program materials are provided by the YWCA of the Sauk Valley’s Sexual Assault Department. Parents are welcome to attend these presentations in the classroom. The dates of the presentations will either be on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 or Thursday, October 8, 2009. Please contact Mr. Beck at school to find the location and time of your child's presentation if you are interested in attending.
Informing children of these concepts is an integral part of the elementary counseling curriculum aimed to lesson the vulnerability to abuse in a preventative manner, which ensures that all students can achieve school success through academic, career, and personal/social development. The materials used in the presentations are age appropriate and clear distinction is made between normal, healthy affection, and sexual abuse.
You may choose not to have your child participate in this program if you desire. If you do NOT want your child to participate, please send a written note to Mr. Beck. We will arrange for your child to have another activity during this time. Please contact Mr. Beck at 309-659-2239 ext. 2213 with questions or concerns.
Please remember that open communication between you and your child is the best defense against sexual abuse. A great conversation starter may be to discuss with your children the:
“Body Safety Rule”
1. Hey! It’s MY body!
2. Listen to your “Uh oh” feeling!
3. Say NO in a big voice and get away!
4. Tell an adult that you trust!
5. It’s NEVER the child’s fault!
