5 Erie High School students were selected to attend the 60th Annual Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Dorian Vocal Festival is the largest vocal festival in the United States. Outstanding juniors and seniors are nominated by their choir director, and a total of 1,500 students, from the states of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota comprise this remarkable ensemble. Seniors - Sean Leeds, Trenton Hill, and Monica Blair were selected, along with Juniors - Faith Walker, and Samantha Johnston. Students travelled to Decorah, Iowa on Sunday, January 10, 2010 for a weekend full of learning filled rehearsals. Throughout their weekend they were able to observe some incredible performances from Luther College Choirs, as well as a high school choir from Anoka, Wisconsin. Their experience was brought to a close with a Grand Concert Monday night in front of friends and family who were lucky enough to have gotten tickets for this spectacular event. The Dorian Vocal Festival is a once in a lifetime opportunity these students got to encounter, and the memory of this occasion will always be a part of them. The title of one of the pieces sung at this years’ festival seems to sum it up nicely, “How Can I Keep From Singing?”
