High School: World History

World History Field Trip to Putnam and IMAX

by Jason Orman

November 06, 2007

On Oct. 10th, Mr. Orman's world history class, along with bio-med students, attended a field trip at the Putnam Museum and IMAX Theater in Davenport, Ia.

Students and chaperones arrived at approximately 9:00 a.m.  At 9:15 the students were treated to a theatrical presentation about the life of Isis Neferit, a temple chantress and dancer of her time.  The presentation focused on how religious beliefs dictated their life styles.  The actor also did a wonderful job of stressing the dignity and pride women took in their work.  She also focused on the sophistication of the time and the importance of the Nile River to the people of Ancient Egypt.

After the presentation, a Museum Educator led us down to the Egyptian Gallery to enlighten the students on the wonders found in the gallery.  She discussed the history of the artifacts and how they arrived at the museum.

At 12:30 the students were treated to a showing of Mummies:Secrets of the Pharaohs.  The forty minute presentation took the audience on a trip back to a time of great power and a strong belief in an afterlife, while examining the modern advances of DNA testing.
